P. Nicolas Ledoux - Solo Show

P. Nicolas Ledoux is back at the Magda Danysz Gallery, after two rounds of Drawing Battle against, or with, Mathias Schmied, for his most important individual exhibition yet which emphasized the diversity of his talents and the deepness of his thoughts. For this exhibition, P. Nicolas Ledoux is showing black ink, very precise and detailed drawings, but also paintings he had painted, videos and installations.

P. Nicolas Ledoux is a complex artist, and his graphic skills live up to that. In a duel with History and art history, his works provide material for criticism that can be simple or complex, depending on who is looking at them. His drawings are double-edged. They’re pretty, harmonious, even trendy, but in fact they’re deep creations which question the practise of contemporary art and the limits of painting. Christophe Le Gac says about Ledoux, « few art critics have tried to analyse his work, for it is too critical of criticism. » P. Nicolas Ledoux is a drawing art critic himself.

He is first and foremost an intellectual, he multiplies references in order to divert them. The act of painting or drawing is an everyday pleasure to him, « as much as reading the paper or composing music ». His works, beyond the plastic aspect, are essentially conceptual. P. Nicolas Ledoux borrows the idea from conceptual art that the definition of art lies in artistic practise. As a member of the Ultralab group, which recently exposed at the Jeu de Paume Museum, P. Nicolas Ledoux showed his work in numerous galleries in France and abroad, in England, Australia and in the United States. This year the French National Fund for Contemporary Art acquired a very large drawing of his. This exhibition at the Magda Danysz gallery is the occasion to spend some time on the constructed reflexion of an artist who is still growing in contemporary art.
