The work of Serbian/French artist Vuk Vidor, centers around a doublesided fascination of the absense of historical conscience in the modern world. An absense which lead to strange reinventions of dead mythology. In his grand project American quartet the superhero Captain America is depicted as a resurrected Atlas, that no longer can bear the weight of the American dream and as a crucified Jesus on the shareholders cross. In another series, vulgar pornography, is transformed into classical abstraction by a simple computer-filter. With his double background in both the eastern Serbia and the western France, Vuk Vidors work puts its finger on many of the tensions in the european civilization - both here and in America. The modern, expressed in Vuk Vidors classic popart style, contrasted with the weight of history, expressed in the monumental barock compositions of the works.
