FACES Video Show

Artists : Botto e Bruno, P. Nicolas Ledoux, Mireille Loup, Marianne Maric, Erwin Olaf, Laurena Papaerina, Pleix, Elodie Pong, Jeanne Susplugas, Chloé Tallot, etc. The 18gallery is transformed into a projection room with multiple videos to be discovered. As an invitation to plunge into the new media world, the FACES show features a special selection of international artists who have explored the notion of the face in their work. Whether is is a face à face, or more of some personal introspection the show will take you deep into your soul at times, and make you laugh at others. The FACES show is a show that aims to be open to everyone so as to discover the amazing world of video art, yet too rarely shown in good conditions to be appreciated. The relaxed and comfortable atmosphere of the gallery invites and encourages viewers to get to know and appreciate the videos, a medium still not wholly accepted in the contemporary art world. In terms of content the FACES show is based on unpredictability and contrasts. The show features works like the one of P. Nicolas Ledoux who endlessly draws a face that stares at us. The effect being that we can not hold our eyes of this strange staring figure, yet we don’t know why. Something is changing in the image, or maybe in ourselves… The show will also features works by Laurina Paperina and Martin Sastre that are more aimed at passing on laughing mode : both these artists make fun of the snobbish contemporary art world with its face à face and combats between famous artists or art dealers. Overall the shows is a " profusion / confusion " of visual and sound contradictions that combine to produce a hypnotic effect on the spectator. The images and sounds work or dance together in the same manner as you would expect from an immaculate ballet performance. The video Show is also the kick off point for 18Gallery’s Video Session nights that will go all the time on every last Saturday of the month at 18Gallery.
